Test in-ground sprinkling systems annually by May 25

Avon Lake property owners with in-ground sprinkling systems must have their backflow prevention devices tested annually by May 25.

Copies of the test results must be on file at Avon Lake Municipal Utilities Office by the deadline. Failure to comply can result in the water being shut off and a standard turn-on fee applied.

The Board of Municipal Utilities is offering an annual amnesty period to property owners who have not registered their systems. This year’s amnesty period is April 1 to May 1, 2010. To avoid a fine all you need to do is stop by the Municipal Utilities Office at 201 Miller Road and fill out a registration form within the designated amnesty period.

“The Board is not in the business of fining people but we will do everything we can to protect the public water supply,” said Board Chair Chuck Whitmer.

We can either email you a list of certified testers or you can pick one up at the office during 8:30 am to 4:30 pm business hours. For additional information, call 440-933-6226 or email kris.kral@alutilities.com.
