THE JAYCOX CONNECTION!
All 21 homes between Lake and Electric have been reconnected to the new Jaycox sanitary sewer as of March 20. Excavation in the Electric/Jaycox intersection to separate the combined
sanitary and storm water sewer from Electric to Stony Brook will begin on March 22. When completed the 2.1 miles of sanitary sewer will carry wastewater to the Lake Road interceptor and
Avon Lake's Pollution Control Center for treatment. The existing combined sewer will take storm water flows directly to Lake Erie at the Jaycox Road outfall. All of Avon Lake's combined
sewers must be separated by 2020 to meet EPA's National Pollution Discharge Elimination System goal of eliminating sewage overflows into the environment.

Jaycox sanitary sewer, from Lake to Electric, is complete.
BIG CANNON! Digioia Suburban Excavating crewman Brian Frye steadies a pipe and home lateral connection at 121 Jaycox Road. Digioia crews installed approximately 1,100 feet of 18 inch pipe, five manholes, and reconnected 21 home laterals since the February start date.
Phase I of the Jaycox Road combined sanitary and storm sewer drainage basin project is complete from Lake Road to Electric Blvd. Separation from Electric to Stoney Brook Lane began the week of
March 22.
The drainage basin project consists of installing 2.1 miles of sanitary sewer pipe, decommissioning a lift station, and connecting the pipe to the Lake Road interceptor which will take
wastewater directly to the Avon Lake Water Pollution Control Center for treatment. The existing combined sewer will pipe storm water directly to Lake Erie through the Jaycox outfall.
In addition to Jaycox it includes the streets of Cherry Lane, Yoder Boulevard, Harvey Parkway, and sections of Lake Road and Electric Boulevard.
Money for the $2.9 million project will come entirely from sewer revenues. "Residents will not be charged for sewer separation and installation of new sanitary sewers and home lateral connections, but any work required to make surface water reconnections will be
at the property owner s expense," said Chief of Utility Operations Rick Eberle.
Local and emergency traffic will be maintained. All problems relating to construction should be directed to Avon Lake Municipal Utilities at 933-6226 during workdays or 933-9229 on weekends and holidays. A progress report will be updated weekly at Avon Lake Municipal Utilities website www.avonlakewater.org.

Jaycox area residents to get new sanitary sewer.
About 50 residents attended a meeting at the Avon Lake Public library to discuss the installation of new sanitary sewers in the Jaycox Road combined sanitary and storm sewer drainage basin. In addition to Jaycox the project includes the streets of Cherry Lane, Yoder Boulevard, Harvey Parkway, and sections of Lake Road and Electric Boulevard.
The project consists of installing 2.1 miles of sanitary sewer pipe, decommissioning a lift station, and connecting the pipe to the Lake Road interceptor which will take the wastewater directly to the Avon Lake Water Pollution Control Center for treatment. The existing combined sewer will pipe storm water directly to the Lake Erie through the Jaycox outfall.
"Money for the project, low bid at $2,870,400, will come entirely from sewer revenues," said Chief of Utility Operations Rick Eberle. He emphasized, "There will be no charge to residents for separating the combined sewers and installing and connecting to the new sanitary sewers, but any work required to make surface water reconnections will be at the property owner’s expense."
Residents received a letter in November advising them what must be done and when and who to call if they have questions or need help. All downspouts and surface water connections must be disconnected from the sanitary sewers before construction begins.

Collection and Distribution Superintendent Rick Kasten answers residents questions regarding property downspout connections to the new sanitary sewers that will be installed in the Jaycox Road area starting this winter.
The contractor Digioia Suburban will begin Phase I construction in February. The project has four phases and will take about nine months to complete. Local traffic will be maintained and residents will be notified of any reroutings.
Some residents raised concerns regarding basement backup problems during and after construction. Eberle advised them to "Call Avon Lake Municipal Utilities first. We'll come out and determine whether the problem lies within your home lateral or the sanitary sewer main, who is responsible, and what it takes to solve the problem."
Project Manager Jack Gaydar briefed residents on the stages of construction and urged everyone to be safety conscious when walking and driving around construction areas.
City Engineer Joe Reitz fielded questions regarding property restoration and road repairs. All property will be restored to its pre-construction condition, streets will receive concrete or asphalt resurfacing, and surface water catch basins installed between driveways where required.
Kathy Szippl, a Vineyard Drive resident who attended the meeting, said that she was doubtful at first when they installed new sanitary sewers in Fay Road and Vineyard Drive. "But everyone was really considerate regarding access to our property. Site inspectors were always on the job. It's a good investment. You get a new sewer and a new street." Most important, no backups have been reported since the new sewers were installed.
All problems relating to construction should be directed to Avon Lake Municipal Utilities at 933-6226 during workdays or 933-9229 on weekends and holidays. Someone will be on call 24-7 to answer your questions. A Jaycox Sewer Project Communications Center will also be available at the Utility's website www.avonlakewater.org.
