About ALMU
Avon Lake Municipal Utilities is unique among public utilities. Avon Lake Municipal Utilities is governed by an independent Board of Municipal Utilities, which is duly elected by the residents of Avon Lake to establish policy and oversee the water and wastewater treatment operations. Independence allows the board to focus on department business and act decisively when windows of opportunity present themselves. The Board has five members and meets twice a month, except during summer recess, in July and August. Regular meeting times and dates are posted on the calendar and open to the public. Board members are elected to serve four-year terms. Two or three members run for re-election every two years. The Board appoints the Chief Utilities Executive and Chief of Utility Operations, who are responsible for management and operations. The utility manages its own personnel and is directly responsible to the residents of Avon Lake for water and sewer service. While they function independently of City government, Board members meet regularly with City Officials and cooperate on major projects.
